Why Abstinence Until Marriage?
Every year, approximately 15 million people in the United States become infected with one or more STDs. 25 percent occur in teenagers. (Tracking the Hidden Epidemics: Trends in STDs in the United States, Centers for Disease Control, 2001.)

I would like to thank you for your work as a physician to the citizens of the United States. Like you, we also strive to promote healthy lifestyle choices to the public. Because of our mutual concern for public health, I would like to tell you more about the Abstinence Clearinghouse.
- Leslee Unruh, President of the Abstinence Clearinghouse

At the Abstinence Clearinghouse we deal with today’s culture and the twisted message regarding unmarried sexual activity. The Clearinghouse promotes abstinence until marriage and fidelity in marriage as the expected standard. We believe in and promote character development, personal responsibility, self-restraint and sexual activity exclusively within the state of marriage. We strive for leaders of integrity to join the Clearinghouse in a strong, united voice.

Part of the strength of that united voice comes from the Medical Abstinence Council, which is comprised of health professionals around the world who believe in abstinence until marriage and do not counsel, prescribe, or distribute condoms or contraceptives to youth. Physicians from a wide range of medical specialties are coming together to proclaim the benefit that abstinence plays in overall health.

You can be a part of that strong, united voice by joining the Medical Abstinence Council. As a member of the Medical Council, you will receive:
  • An honorary affiliation with the Abstinence Clearinghouse.
  • Weekly e-mail updates telling you the latest on federal legislation for abstinence education funding.
  • Discounts on our annual Abstinence Conference which includes medical speakers.
  • Access to up-to-date abstinence resource information.

If you’d like to become a part of this council, please fill out the Guidelines and return them to us.

We look forward to welcoming you to this prestigious Medical Council. If you would like more information about the Clearinghouse, please feel free to call or e-mail us at 605.335.3643 or councils@abstinence.net.
